Aerocare was previously known as Ambulance Air Africa (Prinsloo Aviation) and established in 1978.
Our main base of operations is at BloemfonteinInternationalAirportwith satellite bases in Kimberley, Kuruman and Bethlehem. Our core business has always been the provision of Aeromedical services to public and private corporations throughout the years.
In 2009 Aerocare also became a private emergency services provider, incorporating these services into our business model. These services include road ambulance and fire & rescue services.
Fixed Wing Air Ambulance Service
For more than 35 years we have been delivering this service in and around South Africa. Our fixed wing aircraft are dedicated Intensive Care air ambulances. We strive to deliver an unrivalled Advanced Life Support service to patients that need our service. The flight crew is on standby 24 hours a day, 7 days per week. It is standard practice with us to have a Doctor/ALS paramedic on every flight. Our doctors are selected and assisted telephonically by Dr Bert Top in collaboration with Sello Tsoaela (NDip Advanced Life Support Flight Paramedic) regarding every specific case.
Emergency Response Services
Since 2009 Aerocare has been involved in the management, coordination and implementation of various emergency response services throughout South Africaand abroad. We have obtained the knowledge, resources and experience to successfully operate emergency services within provided parameters.
Batho Pele MobileHealth Unit Project
In March 2011 a contract was concluded between Anglo American - Kumba Iron Ore– Sishen mine and Aerocare relating to the project management of the Batho Pele Mobile Health Unit Project, which is a joint venture between Kumba Iron Ore– Sishen mine and the Northern Cape Department of Health. The Mobile Units started delivering services in September 2011 and will be funded for 5 years, after which the project will be handed over to the Northern Cape Department of Health.
This project is the first of its kind in terms of the way it operates. There are 9 mobile units that are moved to 4 pre-determined service points where they all remain for one week at a time. The 9 mobile units consist of a GP unit, Clinic, HIV counselling and testing unit, Dental Unit, Optometric Unit, Kitchen Unit, Accommodation Unit, Theatre Unit and Ablution Unit. In only one year the project managed to assist over 20 000 people.
Road Ambulances, Fire & Rescue Services
In April 2014 Aerocare was awarded a contract to provide Medical and Fire & Rescue services to Anglo American – Kumba Iron Ore– Sishen mine and the surrounding area. This service includes fire & rescue and ambulance services to the mine, Sishen airport and the community of the Kathu area.
Road Ambulance Services – Northern Cape Province, South Africa
Road ambulance bases have been established in the Northern Capein Kuruman, Kathu and Vryburg to provide emergency response services to all members of the community of Kuruman, Kathu, Hotazel, Postmasburg, Vryburg and Danielskuil areas. In the Free StateStatewe have a base in Bloemfonteinto support the areas in and around Bloemfontein.
We currently operate 10 ALS equipped ambulances and 3 Emergency Response Vehicles in these areas. Personnel qualifications include Advanced Life Support Paramedics (ALS), Emergency Care Technicians (ALS), Intermediary Life Support (ILS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) with most employees having Fire Fighting qualifications.
Service delivery contract with the South African Department of Health – Northern Cape Province
In March 2012 Aerocare was awarded a tender to provide air ambulance services to the Northern Cape Department of Health. This service includes emergency air ambulance services as well as a flying doctor/outreach service. The flying doctor/outreach service relates to flying specialist doctors to rural areas of the Northern Cape Provincefor them to deliver much needed medical services to the community.
The contract with the South African Department of Health is concluded for three years with renewal at the end of the term.
